October Events and What is SPECIAL this Month

October is a busy month! Please click on the above October Events badge to be taken to the October page. Here you can find the grphics sized to 300x300. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did in making them for the Cat Blogosphere and our Woofie Furrends!

First up, October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!

Adopt a Shelter Dog Month is part of the ASPCA's Rescue Effect. Adopt One. Save Another. That's The Rescue Effect. When you adopt or foster an animal, you make an impact that ripples throughout shelters nationwide — saving that animal’s life makes room for others. Helping one animal is just the start. Mom says she has shared her life with 10 woofies. 6 of them have come from shelters.

Black Cat Awareness Month

Our very own Layla Morgan Wilde, a holistic cat expert, pet industry consultant, and founder of the popular blog Cat Wisdom 101, noticed that there was nothing dedicated to our sable feline companions on a national level. So, she launched the non-profit initiative Black Cats Tell All to promote black cat adoption. Such an observation was welcomed by animal lovers, as superstitions surrounding black cats have run rampant for centuries. Click here to go to Cat Wisdom 101.

Right now we have 2 black cats in our life. Mr Kozmo (who is actually a Tuxie) and Lucifer who we are trying to trap.

Pet Wellness Month

This month was designed as National Pet Wellness Month by the American Veterinary Medical Association. It was created as a way to help us, as pet owners, to stay mindful of all of the ways that we can keep our pets healthy. Our pets don’t have a way to tell us when they aren’t feeling well, so we need to support the overall health of our pets and learn how to identify problems as they arise.

This week is National Dog Week

Walk Your Dog Week aims to improve the health and well being of America's dogs and sends the message to unchain your dogs!"With more and more people becoming sedentary and gaining weight due to a lack of exercise, say's Colleen Paige, founder of the day. Too many dogs don't get the necessary outlet they need to stay physically and mentally healthy. I feel that part of the overpopulation of dogs in this country is hugely associated with our growing waistlines. Generally, the less a person exercises, the less their dog exercises. Having trained thousands of dogs, it's my estimation that at least 75% or more of dogs in shelters are there, due to a lack of exercise, which has resulted in serious behavior issues such as aggression, destruction and separation anxiety. Our Canine sister is a SUPER Walker! Her and Mom go walking usually 3 times a day. Not only does it keep them both slim and trim, but they know almost all our neighbors and all the dogs (and some of the cats) on their circuits.
