When we were looking for information about International Rabbit Day, we found out that Rabbits are the #3 pet and a large number of rabbits end up at shelters too! Rabbits live 5-10 years and their needs are different from us cats and dogs)! If you want to know more about rabbits as pets (and wild rabbits) you can go to the Rabbit Foundation https://rabbit.org/activism/celebrating-international-rabbit-day-advocating-for-our-furry-friends/
There are 2 rabbits that live in the coop with the chickens up the street. Flopsy and Mopsy are 7 years old and they are beloved members of their family. They share their 5 humans with 2 dogs, 3 cats and 6 chickens! During the summer and fall they live in their hutch in the chicken coop and are allowed out into the fenced backyard for a couple hours each day. During the winter, they have a large caged hutch in the house. They have toys! Did you know rabbits like to play with toys?
Outside in the coop the rabbits have their own little enclosed hutch where they can get away from it all (including the chickens). They also "play" with the cats, (Fred, Wilma and Barney) but not so much with the dogs (Ralph and Maddie) and they and the chickens are friendly.
We (Me, Kozmo, Jo Jo and the Nut Case) have put our feet down - NO RABBITS AT OUR HOUSE!
Do you know any rabbits?

ReplyDeleteOh yes, I have known a few rabbits over the years, including one that we had as children. They make great pets! Sorry have missed commenting a couple of posts... life in a van is busy! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
I had rabbits as a child, Snowy, Roman and Peter.
ReplyDeleteNo rabbits here.
ReplyDeleteHi Marv, Lynn used to always have a pet bunny since she was little kid during the age of dinosaurs. Her last one was Frosty when she was in her 20's. I do not have a pet bunny and with all the loose cats here, I haven't seen a baby this year. I have heard the awful screams when I'm out in the dark on the catio.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have any pet rabbits but we do have quite a few living on our property. Some like to come inside the fence because they think the grass tastes better than outside the fence. BOL!
ReplyDeleteHee! Hee! We don't have any wild rabbits around here. Mom says we used to see Snowshoe hares but she has not seen one since she moved back 5 years ago...maybe its because the Eagles have moved up the Kettle River about the same time...
DeleteOMCs Marv I posted about a rabbit yesterday...
ReplyDeletethere was a grad student in Physics at NCSU who had Flemish Rabbits and they were litter box trained.
OH MARV can you imagine sharing you litter box with a wascally wabbit
Hugs Cecilia
We hope that all bunnies have had a super special day.
ReplyDeleteRabbits are great pets as long as you remember they are prey animals and do not act like pet dogs (which are predators) or pet cats (which can be both predator and prey). We've not had rabbits as we're not set up for them, but I wouldn't be against it if I had time.
ReplyDeleteWe don't purrsonally know any rabbits. One of Mummy's nieces used to have a rabbit called Lola, but she had to give her up for adoption, because one of her sisters has asthma and many allergies.
ReplyDeleteLulu: "Flopsies! We have four or five of them living in the hedge out front. It's fun to stare at them through the screen door!"
ReplyDeleteHappy Bunny Day! Lee and Phod
ReplyDeleteWe don't have any of our own rabbits, but sometimes I see peeps come into the pet shop with one or two.
ReplyDeleteThere are quite a few wild bunnies that roam around our yard...but they mostly seem to know not to come inside our fence...Hmmmm...we wonder why??!
