Today is Black Dog Day!
National
Black Dog Day is commemorated annually on October 1st and was established by
Pet and Family Lifestyle Expert Colleen Paige in 2011. Its primary aim is to
shed light on the challenges faced by black dogs in shelters and combat the
stigma associated with their color. Less likely to be adopted because of the negative connotations that come with their coat color, National Black Dog Day is all about showing that darker dogs are just as loyal, lovable and affectionate as their lighter-haired companions.
Wowzers! Today is also Fire Pup Day!
Every year on October 1st, National Fire Pup Day is celebrated to honor the canine members of America’s fire departments for their loyalty and service. We don't know if the Nut Case is a fire pup, but she IS BLACK AND WHITE! She runs really fast and she has been to a few of our local Volunteer Fire Department meetings with our Alex.
She says she would LOVE to be a fire Pup!
Do you know any fire Pups?
The man who rubs my belly was a fireman fur 30 years. In the big city of Columbus Ohio. When he started back in the day of the dinosaur, they had a mascot at the number one station. and the outlying towns had dalmations too. Precious
ReplyDeleteFirefighters are a special breed of human, and they deserve all the canine or furry companionship that is possible.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day to celebrate some special pups!
ReplyDeleteMy childhood dog, Nipsy was a black Lhasa Apso. XO
ReplyDeleteWe don't know any fire pups but admire them.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved black pups and kitties. Our Agnel Little Bit was black and our baby Squeaker is black. Most precious.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and week. Scritches all around, a smooch to Marvelous Marv and a big hug to mom. ♥
Nutmeg, you'd make a wonderful fire dog girl!
ReplyDeleteWe love black pups AND fire pups! We think every day is a great day to celebrate them. :)
ReplyDeleteLulu: "Hooray for us black dogs! Or mostly black dogs, as the case may be!"
ReplyDeleteOona: "Oona will give you a day. But it's still mostly all about black cats this month."
Some of our neighbors are on the volunteer fire dept of our village. Funny thing...(Not funny for whom it happened to...), a while back one of those firemen had a big fire in his own kitchen!! Wow, everyone was there to help put it out...two doors down from here. But we were not allowed to go there to snoopervise...and no one was hurt, thankfully, but he had to get a whole new kitchen and back porch.
ReplyDeleteThat doggy in the badge looks a lot like me, Benji!! Yup, I am a black dog...and a shelter dog too. As is Dalton, though we came from different shelters.
We think Nutmeg would make a good fire pup. Even if she isn't a Dalmation she has the right coloring for the job.
