Christmas Card Day!

 Ho! Ho! Ho!

 

Are you starting to feel like Christmas? 

Back in the last century, Mom used to get a ton of Christmas Cards...

 

Hissy Old Licorice with a "few" Christmas Cards

 

The year that the Cards numbered more than 100, Mom decided that the next year she would donate $1 for every card she got for Christmas Hampers for those in need. And she sent a note to everyone that sent us cards that was what she was doing starting the next Christmas. Mom has done that almost every year since. Mom DOES send ecards, especially to our Blogging furrends. And for those special friends who are not online she does buy (or make) a few cards and we do receive a few, BUT us and Mom still donate money for those in need. This year we are donating to the shelter and the food bank.  

Mom has quite a Christmas Card collection that resides in one of the Christmas Boxes in the basement. Mom's Mom started it and some of the cards are over 100 years old! 

Mom thinks this one is as old as she is!

 

We think Mom should get them all out and digitize them all - but maybe next year, (Mom's not very mobile this year).

Take a Hike Day

Hiking with Cats is something that used to happen at Casa de Marv when it was home to the Cat From Hell.  Queen Nellie was an outdoor adventurer from the furrst moment that she came to live with Mom. But it does take some time to get us felines ready to go out into the wilds!
It was not hard to teach Queen Nellie to walk on a leash. At the time, Mom (and Dad) were living in Edmonton and Queen Nellie (and Hissy Old Licorice) were indoor cats. Hissy Old Licorice was leash trained and he used to go for walks with the woofie of the time, Kokanee. 

 Furrst, they had to teach Queen Nellie to come when she was called. And she was really good! As a matter of fact, Mom says she was the fastest learner she ever had! When Mom put the harness on Hissy Old Licorice she would put one on Queen Nellie. They would walk around the house and later on, they would walk around outside slowly increasing the length of the walks.
Mom says the most impawtant thing is making sure that the pets are vaccinated and take flea, tick and heartwork treatments, that pets are microchipped and have a collar and tags!

 Nellie liked to walk and chase bugs when hiking, but Hissy Old Licorice liked to be carried in a back pack! 

Snacks and water are impawtant for cats on hikes and you know what? Poopy bags are too! Mom says hiking means you Leave No Trace! This means you pack out all your trash and the kitty (and woofie) poop.

I KNOW that I do! Though I have never been camping and hiking like Jo Jo and Kozmo, I DO dream of camping, hiking and catching FISH at Lassie Lake where they used to go all the time with Mom and Dad (and Cinnamon and Queen Nellie Belle).
