Take a hike day is sponsored by the American Hiking Society.
They envision a world where everyone feels welcome in the American hiking community and has permanent access to meaningful hiking, including urban, frontcountry, and backcountry opportunities. Today, we are going to talk about hiking with CATS!
Hiking with Cats is something that used to happen at Casa de Marv when it was home to the Cat From Hell. Queen Nellie was an outdoor adventurer from the furrst moment that she came to live with Mom. But it does take some time to get us felines ready to go out into the wilds!
It was not hard to teach Queen Nellie her to walk on a leash. At the time, Mom (and Dad) were living in Edmonton and Queen Nellie (and Hissy Old Licorice) were indoor cats. Hissy Old Licorice was leash trained and he used to go for walks with the woofie of the time, Kokanee.
Mom says the most impawtant thing is making sure that the pets are vaccinated and take flea, tick and heartwork treatments, that pets are microchipped and have a collar and tags!
Snacks and water are impawtant for cats on hikes and you know what? Poopy bags are too! Mom says hiking means you Leave No Trace! This means you pack out all your trash and the kitty (and woofie) poop.
There are LOADS of articles (and pictures) of hiking cats on the interweb if you want to learn more about Hiking!
Where do YOU dream of Hiking?
NO hiking for YOU my dear lady ... not anytime soon, PURRomise! With or without cats or dogs ... still sending you POTP for good healing. Gentle hugs. But here, today ... a great post about walking and hiking with your pets ... sadly I've never even been able to get a simple collar on JUNE, she doesn't even much like to be touched much. Will never know why as she doesn't talk much either ... Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun. I'd definitely like hiking through a department store, when there weren't any humans or guards to stop me investigating.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week, Marv!

the only hiking cat I new before Tigger and now you, was Kat, on Madi's Mom blog. first ever cat on a leash. I did not know it was common... or that you could teach a cat to come. wow! I am impressed... hope you are feeling better and better each day
ReplyDeleteI think I have as much chance of hiking as you do, Barb! I never took the boys hiking, but we did walk around all of the fields most days. It is a fair distance though as the fields cover 17 acres, and by the time we walked forward and back along the dividing hedgerows it took at least two hours. Longer if they decided to look for mice!
