Today Mom went to Grand Forks, BC with her friend and our neighbor Mary. Mary lives across the street and down a couple of doors. She has been feeding the neighborhood feral, Merle. Merle used to be someone's cat. We don't know where he came from or who his people are, but he has been living in Mary's yard since we moved here. He was an intact male. Him and Lucifer (the cat across the street who is also an intact male), have had a couple of really bad fights. Kozmo and I have had a few tussles with him when he impinges on our yard.
About 3 weeks ago, Merle scratched Mary when she tried to feed him and look at his face. His eye was swollen. It looked like he had ear mites and Mary decided it was time he got snipped, vaccinated, de-wormed and de-mited. Mary already has some cats, but after his visit to get "fixed" Merle is going to try out being an inside cat.
Mary contacted Boundary Helping Hands to get a trap and help her with getting Merle all sorted out. She got him trapped last Thursday and he went to the big city! Merle had some issues with his bottom, a couple of broken teeth, bad ear mites and an infection on his head. (No wonder he was mean!) The people at Helping Hands took him to the vet and he got de-wormed, de-mited, snipped, his shots and antibiotics. His teeth are OK, but the vet would like to check them out on a regular basis. Mary got the word today that Merle could come home! As Mom wanted to drop off the money from my birthday comment-a-thon, Mom and Mary headed to the big city.
Boundary Helping Hands Feline Rescue Society is in an old house.
This last weekend, a new Catio was built for their facility!
It was over 35c/95f so the cats were inside where it is cooler.
They have 2 big cat rooms and a TON of cats - most are ready to find forever homes!
Merle came through all the ministrations with flying colors! He looked terrific and he was easy to get into the dog crate to bring him back home. The people at Helping Hands said he was a purrfect cat, very friendly and well behaved! Alas, the photos Mom tried to take of Merle did not turn out. But she did want to tell you he really was the purrfect cat on the trip home - he did NOT sing the songs of our people.
We are thankful that Merle is back home and that he looks so furry happy
to try to be an inside cat! We hope that he integrates well with
Mary's other cats and her 2 dogs. (We will let you know how that goes).
for coming to my Birthday Pawty last week on Ms Ann and June's Blog! We are blessed to have furrends like them and you! We are pawticipating in Thankful Thursday at Brian's Home. We are so furry thankful that they host this hop every week. We love Brian, Dolly, Simon and Seal (and their Peeps) and we LOVE hopping through to read everyone else's thankfuls! That is very good news that Merle is now all fixed up. I hope he settles well into being an indoor cat. That is a nice Catio at Helping Hands so the cats can go out for fresh air.
