This is a wonderful news story!
On
February 13, 2026, in Abbotsford, British Columbia, a waste management
worker saved five newborn kittens from a "horrible fate" after
discovering them buried in a pile of cardboard just moments before they
were to be loaded into a trash compactor
.- The Rescue: The worker heard faint cries while processing waste and discovered two kittens initially. Later that same day, he found a third. Due to his persistence in checking the pile, he found two more kittens at the same site on February 16.
- The "Pile": The kittens, which were very young and required bottle-feeding, were buried beneath cardboard, necessitating urgent intervention.
- Care and Recovery: The BC SPCA Abbotsford took the kittens into care. Because the shelter was closed for a holiday when the last two were found, the worker took them home to care for them overnight. The kittens were treated for upper respiratory infections.
- The Future: Named by their foster parents, the litter includes Dave (the largest and gentlest), Steven (curious and purrs when picked up), Dorito (small with a big voice), Cheeto (calm), and Annie (playful). They are expected to be available for adoption in early April 2026 once they gain enough weight.

all the best to this wonderful kittens... and thank you that people have such a big heart for friends in need
ReplyDeleteI am very thankful too that the worker heard mews and investigated. It doesn't bear thinking about if he hadn't! I hope they all get wonderful homes when they are old enough.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad the worker found these precious babies... I will never understand why someone would put them in a dangerous place... I hope they find homes quickly when they are ready
ReplyDeleteThank doG these kittens were found before..........Shame on the person who abandoned them. They are not trash - they are babies and I hope they will find their loving homes when the time is right.
ReplyDeleteMarv this sad story will have a happy ending. But it only makes us realize how many more kittens and puppies that never have a happy ending.

ReplyDeleteWe are very happy there was a happy ending and may have said some HBO words about people leaving kittens to such a fate. Tigris, Styx and Lanie too!
ReplyDeletegratitoodz!!
ReplyDeleteOh my, what a wonderful story for those kittens! One should be named Lucky! How can people do that to living creatures and then ones that are so helpless. It breaks out heart!

ReplyDeleteThat was a darn good save, hooray for that wonderful dude!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing story!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story! After Hurricane Katrina, a lady who’d been hired to come here from Georgia to work for the waste services heard crying in a bundle of tree debris she was picking up and found four kittens. I ended up bottle raising them for the shelter. It’s always such a relief when these littles are found in time.
ReplyDeleteWe're so thankful for that wonderful human, and glad those babies will now all find their forever loving homes.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a story, and with a happy ending. Phooey and other unmentionables to whoever put those kittens in the trash, 😡
