National Rescue Dog Day

On May 20th, The National Rescue Dog Day brings a promise of love, friendship, and kindness. Each year, millions of animals, specifically dogs, are abandoned by their owners and end up on the streets. Many of these animals are used to a sheltered life, and this, in turn, makes it difficult for them to fend for themselves out in the world. Food is hard to come by and humans and other animals also pose a threat to these abandoned animals. Animal welfare organizations step in to help by providing a shelter, home, etc. Many of these organizations also encourage people to adopt the dogs, so that they get a new home and to create more space for other dogs in the shelters. Adopting, or even just fostering, helps people and the animals in the long run.

This day was first established by Lisa Wiehebrink. She is an author as well as the founder of “Tails That Teach.”

Her books and teaching packages are terrific!  Click and visit her site!

I, Nutmeg am a rescue that did NOT come from a shelter. Like most of the dogs that shared our Mom's life, we came from homes that could not take care of us properly and our next stop was a shelter. We purray that all dogs get furrever homes that love them and make them so furry happy!

We all have been dancing dogs!

  6. I came from a rescue group and Millie was plucked by that rescue group from a local shelter. We're thankful for all the rescues and shelters that help homeless pets.

  11. Lulu: "Hooray for dog rescue! We are pretty much all rescues here! I used to live on a ranch, but I got turned into the shelter when my family moved away, where my future Mama saw me and was reminded of Dada's girl Trixie."
Charlee: "Chaplin and I were picked up off the street with our litter and our mom cat."
Chaplin: "She was feral and was spayed and released, and Charlee and I were put in a big cage where our future Mama saw us in the office at the shelter."
Java Bean: "Ayyy, I used to live on the streets in Baja, but I got picked up and sent to the San Diego Humane Society, where my future Mama saw me and was reminded of her boy Tucker."
Oona: "And Oona got left on Dada's cousin's porch along with her brother, and Dada's cousin brought her to Dada's aunt's house one Easter, and Oona spent the whole day sleeping on her future Mama's lap and ended up going home with her."
Chaplin: "Mama kind of seems like some kind of rescue animal magnet doesn't she?"

  12. We pups are rescue pups too! From Texas all the way to Michigan! (we were pulled out of high kill shelters, Dalton at the time of hurricane Harvey and Benji about a year later.
Groucho had to leave his original home due to medical issues with newborn twins, so he is a semi rescue...Minko was removed by petcretary from a dirty and horrid lady's way of raising kittens....she should have taken all of the cats and kittens, and called the authorities, but she didn't know at that time how awful that place really was...but she watches the want ads to make sure she doesn't ever try to make profit from kittens...maybe that is why Minko had so many health issues?
But we are all happy that we have/had wonderful forever homes now.
