International Take Your Cat to the Vet Day

Furst off, a gratuitous Kozmo and Katie shot!

Today we are talking about going to the VET!

August 22 is Take Your Cat to the Vet Day in BOTH Canada and the US, So, I Marv, decided that I would make it INTERNATIONAL!

This Day is to remind our Peeps that it is important that us felines should get our health checked regularly. We know how well loved and cared for we are, but it is always a good idea that we go to the vet to find out, if we are in good health (us cats are notorious for hiding how crappy we feel).

Mom realized that Mr Kozmo might have Thyroid issues because he lost weight he was walking around yelling at the top of his lungs and his furs did not have its usual glorious shine! Now Mr Kozmo is on thyroid medication and needs his blood stolen at least once a year (or his weight changes).

Around here, because we are outside cats, we also get checked for worms, and special shots for the diseases that fleas and ticks can give us. Mom always makes sure to ask our veterinarian which topical medication is recommended for our lifestyle (we are outside and we are rodent killers), and the parasites we are most at risk for where we live. We also get a monthly topical treatment as in our area (and our lifestyle) Mom wants to prevent fleas, heartworms, roundworms, hookworms, ear mites and the three tick species that come with the deer that abound in our area from affecting us.

Mom has a checklist to get us ready when it is time to go!
  • A good cat carrier
  • A stool sample
  • A list of any changes/concerns
  • Mom also puts catnip in the carrier and has treats in her pocket!
What is on your Checklist?

  2. My check list includes hiding under the bed, going to the top of the closet, putting out my claws and refusing to git into the box! Lynn always has other ideas and I go off to the v-e-t! October is my month and it will be here too soon to suit me, Marv! Precious

  3. love you Marv and this is great news of all the caregiving you get from Mom. Beau is and inside and outside dog but he gets what you get, blood work that cost what used to me weeks pay.. he is worth it and so are both of you... what you get is exactly what Beau gets but he gets rabies shots and kennel cough. he never goes in a kennel, but we go to the public park and walk each day in public places where he sniffs either pee which could give it to him. better safe than sorry with all pets.

  4. Going to the vet is important, but lately we've been using an at home vet and we love it.

  7. None of ours are fans of the Vet trips but most, but not all, tolerate them okay.

  9. Oh, yesterday was my trip to the vet. It was awful, terrible, dreadful and very mean of mine Mommy to subject me to THAT. I showed her my displeasure by ignoring her all afternoon and meowing loudly to irritate her (I am normally a most quiet kitty). That'll teach her. Right? Such indignities were inflicted upon me.
I know I will never be the same again ... meow.
