American Independence Day

Happy Independence Day to our American furrends!

As many of you know, Casa De Marv is only 480 yards north of the Canadian/American border. As a matter of fact, one of the trails we like to walk on, on the Mountain, goes across the the border and then swings back into Canada!  Mom used to have a US Mail Box and she used to shop in the US all the time. But that does not happen any more. Since Covid, travel restrictions (especially for the dogs) has changed and it is becoming even more difficult this August (https://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/dogs-entering-us-after-august-1.html).

A big US City is the about the same distance from us as the Big City of Kelowna and Mom used to go there (before Covid) and take Cinnamon but she does not any more because it was such a hassle getting Cinnamon across the border.

But enough about our problems, we are here to celebrate with our neighbors to the south!

There's no other day like the 4th of July—wishing you a relaxing day, however you choose to spend it!

Stay safe, and please, if you can, stay inside and don't let the fireworks scare you into running! Getting lost is NOT FUN!

  4. We are so furry glad to see you all today. Thanks fur the 4th wishes. Things are so different and expensive since covid. Thankfully Lynn can still git my crunchy cat food at our only big grocery in our big little city. I do not go hungry evfur. Lynn couldn't believe it about the church burning down. We hope no person caused it on purrpose or was hurt. Here, small congregations now rent empty stores fur churches as the locals can not keep a business going. Stay cool and dry. I will be hiding under the bed starting tonight. The nut cases, called hoomans, will make booming noise all weekend long. Precious

  8. A beautiful post. We are not looking forward to all the noise tonight, but we're ready and no doors will be opened so the babies and get out. We'll stay with them for the night.

Have a fabulous day and rest of the week. Scritches all around, a smooch to Marv and a big hug to mom. ♥

  11. Chaplin: "Dennis used to tell us how his brother Tucker the Other Vizsla came from Canada many years ago! But it's so much harder to bring a dog across the border now, that would probably never happen again, even if we weren't like a thousand miles from Canada now."
Lulu: "Thank you for the Independence Day wishes! NO FIREWORKS PLEASE!!!"

  12. Thank you for the good wishes, and I would love to see it become once more an easy thing for you to simply visit, and for us to visit you if I could ever get up there.

  13. Thanks for the dual greetings! I wore American patriotic clothes to my work, but I also had on my USA/Canada flag pin!

Wow, I read through that link...what a horrific set of rules. I guess my pups will be staying home on any future trips to see my family. Blah to the CDC! It is easier for me to get my Canadian passport than those regulations!

  14. What a special graphic you created for Independence Day. That's amazing how close you live to the border, but a bummer that restrictions have made going back and forth more difficult.

  15. We actually had no idea you were so close to the border. Is the trail guarded or could people easily wander across, without even knowing it? And what would happen if you did?

  16. Lady didn't realize it was getting harder to cross with pups. We hope you are having a good summer. Lee and Phod
