After the Vet

Last night, Mom went downstairs and brought the PTUs up to the living room. We smelled them and then discussed the plans for avoidance in the morning. By morning, we had forgotten...

Around 11 AM Mom grabbed Jo Jo and stuffed her in the small PTU.  Mom did NOT realize one of the zippers was half undone. Jo Jo was out that hole so fast, she was a streak! STRAIGHT to the basement (the one door she neglected to close). It took Mom 15 minutes to get Jo Jo back upstairs. Alex snagged her and in she went. Kozmo was resigned and his capture and sequestering was easy. Alex put them in the car. Kozmo says he and Jo Jo sang the songs of our people the whole journey (which may explain Mom's headache and her crankiness).

It snowed a lot last night and the roads were not fun, but it only took Mom about 15 minutes longer than usual. She got to town early enough to go to the grocery store. Mom bought the staples (wet cat food, dry cat food, cat treats, cat litter, dry dog food, creamer, chicken and broccoli) and then took Jo Jo and Kozmo to the vet.

Jo Jo got let out of her PTU furrst. She got weighed (she is a chunky monkey), her teeth are purrfect and she is in terrific shape (other than being fat super fluffy). She then got her shots and she was furry happy to go back into her PTU. Next was Kozmo. He has lost a KILO (that is 2.4 pound) since his visit for shots last year. He says they took him in a back room and stole his blood. Then he got unceremoniously stuffed back into his PTU then Mom put both of them in the car for the trip home.

We all got treats when Koz and Jo Jo got home

Mom let them out of their PTUs at the car. Jo Jo HATES the snow, but she did stop to use the front flower bed before coming in. I, Marv, thought they smelled funny and I thought about chasing them around but Jo Jo has furry fast whappy paws and Kozmo is despondent about having to take daily pills - as Mom suspected, Kozmo has thyroid problems, so I thought I would leave him alone too.

Mom is furry happy that Timmy Tom Cat's Dad wrote about how to get cats to take pills as it has been a long long time since Mom had to do that! (Thank you Angel Pete).

Now we have told you the vet news, we thought we should add something funny for HAPPY TUESDAY! Here are some more cartoons that Mom has collected.

    1. Shhhhh, don't tell. I have met our local vet. She does large animals and travels out to the farms, she came to the house and gave me my shots. She does NOT do this (except for the barn cats and they are not supposed to tell either).

  3. That was probably wise to leave them alone, Marv. I hope the pills work well for Kozmo. Thanks for the funnies!

As much as he is surely miffed at medicines, Kozmo should be happy that there is love and caring and treatment to keep him happy! It seems the vet visit went well, really - so I bet mum was pretty happy too. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  5. Marv, thank you for the update on how the trip to the doctor went for the two unlucky ones yesterday. Precious is glad that princess Jo Jo had the least problems and it's just a lovely fluffy girl just like mine. We were sorry to hear Kozmo lost so much weight and have the have the vampire suck the blood right out of his body. How can he gain any weight if they drain him dry? What a day that was, but the jokes helped a whole lot.

  6. Our cat bro Bert loves to go to the vet. Mom says we should just leave him there, but she would never do that. Sophie is terrified of the place. Glad you both checked out and nothing major came up. Love the game show cartoon.

  10. We're glad things went well at the VET. Pills are not bad if they help Kozmo be healthier.

    Funny 'toons!

    1. Alas, our rural vet does not carry the ear stuff...as a matter of fact, Mom my have to get Kozmo's medication from the local drug store - just like a people.

  15. Oh the PTU days...I would do the exact as mom did put it out for Madi to sniff for a few days. Often I caught her napping in them. Thankfully our vet was 5 minutes from home.
Lots of positive vibes on the way for any medications..

  16. Our angel Maddie cat hated the carrier crate too, and would put up a tremendous fight! (Picture the Tasmanian Devil on the Bugs Bunny show.)

  17. Sorry you two had to go to the vet. Also sorry about the thyroid pills. I have 3 cats that take them- Joanie gets hers in a soft treat. Sammy and Emmy, I mush up the pill and mix it in gravy from a can of food then I syringe it in to their mouths. XO

  20. Timber got to go to the vet today too, just an annual checkup and a few vaccines. He has LOST four pounds. Mom says he eats well but has too much energy:) We are happy to hear your visits went reasonably well despite the stress of the PTU capture and the snow ride. Take care.

  21. Glad your vet visits are over now. Y’know, the medicine for treating hyperthyroidism can be made into a gel that you rub in the ear if that is a better option for Kozmo.

  22. Well, we are glad that Jo Jo and Koz are done with those visits. Sorry about those meds, Kozmo, but we bet they will make you feel better!

  23. Best wishes on everyone's health and happiness. ~hugs~ And the cartoon featuring Jackson Galaxy cracked me up once I recognized the image details. Thank you for that.

  24. I'm sure Jo Jo and Koz are glad the pain of the PTU and visiting Dr. Stabby are over with but poor Koz needing pills probably means he's not a happy camper! Purrhaps Angel Pete's advice will really do the trick - he knew EVERYTHING about kitties. Love the cartoons.....SOOOOO funny!

    Hugs, Teddy

  25. Oh, all of you, my gosh! At least it's over! Kozmo darling, Angel Admiral will come down and talk to you about that because she had it and it was treated very well. Now there are a coupe of reputable catalogues with pet meds and things for them in everyday use too. If your vet will write a prescription for it...the ear stuff might be obtained. I'll look and see if I can find one for you.

  26. Mmmm, those half-open or half-zipped-not-quite-closed zippers will get you ever time!

  27. So glad that ordeal is over and everyone got there and returned safely despite un-ideal conditions.
Angel Pete left a legacy of good info in his blog pages...I think there s one for pilling like you do, plus one about home-made food. I wonder if he sees how much we still chat about him:)

I had to 'pill' several of my kitties, but somehow I found it a fairly easy duty...they didn't give me too much of a hard time. I hope the thyroid med works well for Kozmo. (When we used an ear gel med for Pipo, he had a bad reaction to the stuff in the gel, so we went back to the pills! We found it less messy and more economical, too.)

    Thanks for the giggles!

  28. Charlee: "Ooh, the vet! Chaplin had to go to the vet today! He is missing some fur on his back which I may or may not have pulled out, and he needed to have the glands expressed in his—"

  29. There is no good way to get cats to the vet; they must go, but it's heck on the human, seemingly more so than on the cats!

  30. What a cruel thing to do around the holidays. Glad you didn't have to go too, Marv.
