Last Thankful Thursday in January

Hi Guys! Did you know that today is the full Wolf Moon!

The first Full Moon of the year is named after howling wolves. In some cultures, it was known as Old Moon, Ice Moon, Snow Moon, and the Moon after Yule.
For millennia, people across Europe, as well as Native American tribes, named the months after features they associated with the Northern Hemisphere seasons, and many of these names are very similar or identical. Today, we use many of these ancient month names as Full Moon names.

We have heavy clouds tonight, but we did hear the local wold pack howling the last few nights, so we expect we will hear them tonight as well. Do you think wolves really howl at the moon?

 Today is Thankful Thursday

I, Marvelous am thankful for so many things!  I am thankful I have a warm and happy home. I am thankful for the food and especially when we get tasty treats! I am thankful for my fur brother and sisters. I am thankful for my human brother (especially when I can snuggle with him in the "man cave" downstairs). I am thankful I can go outside so long as I don't leave the yard. I am thankful that I have blogging furrends (that's YOU)! I am thankful for all the blog hops that we can pawticipate in and meet other bloggers!

We are purticularly Thankful that every Thursday Brian and family sponsor Thankful Thursday and we can see all the Thankfulness!

  1. I don't know whether wolves howl at the moon but everytime I heard a dog howl, it gives me the creeps. I think it is because of grandmas' stories that when dog howls, it sees a ghost or spirit.

  3. I don't like the full moon very much, because it doesn't let me, my husband or our bitch sleep. The only ones who sleep without problems are the cats, Calliope in the house and Gogolak outside. ☺

    Have a good day!

  4. Full moons...no wolves around here, though!
MJF used to bark angrily at a full moon...he thought it was a hot air balloon, which he of course hated. What a silly pup he was sometimes, LOL!

Full moons mean trouble at my work place, it seems to wreak havoc on their dementia issues...

My sister said the same thing, when she was working at the jail...full moons equal bad news!

Us pups don't seem to be affected adversely by it, though, thankfully!

  5. Cloud cover was way too thick here for us to see anything that a silver glow in the sky. No wolves hear that sometimes we hear the coyotes. I'm thankful like you Marv, for having a nice snuggly house and I do not have to go out in the cold and get my little paws icy.

  8. We have a lot of noise outside at night from foxes howling but no wolves that we know of. The noises of the night are interesting though - the only one Mom and I aren't crazy about is Dad's snoring. HAHAHA

  26. The moon was so bright last night, and with the snow, the outside was lit up! Sweetie had a hard time sleeping; she went from window to window, across my body, to watch whatever she saw. At one point, I lay down next to her, to look out too!

  29. Perhaps behavioral scientists understand why wolves howl, but i think it's mostly to bond as a family or let each other know where they are.
