Home Made Dog Food - Beef Roll

Here is a copy of the Beef Roll Recipe!

Beef Roll for Dogs

Ingredients

Directions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  1. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, grated carrots, and oats.
  2. I use my hands (gloved or clean) . Hands are the best for mixing everything
  3. with a fork, mix the egg with the olive oil. Then mix it in the meat mixture. Mix again.
  4. You want a meatloaf consistency--it all sticks together but isn’t soupy. If it’s too dry, a splash of water helps.
  5. Optional: Stir in the chopped parsley. (I often add shredded spinach)
  6. Form the mixture into a log shape (about 3" in diameter). Compress well and wrap tightly in parchment paper (or foil).
  7. If you’re using foil, give it a light coat of olive oil to prevent sticking. You could also shape the log and bake it directly on a sheet—either works, whatever works for you.
I often put foil on the cookie sheet, and put the wrapped loaf on a wire rack so any extra oil does not make the loaf to soft to slice.
  8. Bake for 45–55 minutes, until the internal temperature hits 160°F.
  9. Let the loaf cool completely before slicing. I find putting the loaf in the fridge overnight makes slicing it easier the next day. Make sure you use a sharp knife, the loaf can crumble where it has not been compressed well.
  10. Once cooled, slice into medallions and refrigerate or freeze for later use. These slices hold up beautifully in the fridge for up to five days, and in the freezer for two months.

While cooking, your kitchen will smell terrific! I  often make oven roasted meatballs or meatloaf at the same time so my son does not complain about the dog eating better than  him!

One of the best parts about this recipe is how easy it is to make this for your dog’s preferences or dietary needs.

  • I have made ground turkey or chicken for a lower-fat option.
  • I have add pureed pumpkin or squash for extra fiber and digestive support.
  • Blueberries (a Nutmeg favorite) or finely diced apples (no seeds!) work well too.
  • We often have fresh spinach in our fridge and I shred and add it to the loaf

Tell us if you have made this and how your pet likes it! My cats love it, but they prefer I keep the carrots as large shreds and not grated in the food processor! That way they can eat the meat and leave the carrots!
