June 4 is Hug a Cat Day!

At our house we are celebrating Hug Your Cat Day on June 4th. Today is the perfect excuse to spoil your feline - but at our house, we are NOT big huggers (unlike previous cats). Making us hug,can stress us out. We have our Mom so well trained, that she asks us if we want to be hugged!!

Today, she came into the living rook and said

"Who would like cuddles?"

This was Jo Jo's response

Mom then turned and looked at us boys, (who were napping on the sofa)

What about either of you guys?

So Peeps (who read our blog), Kozmo, Jo Jo and I recommend you (and our Mom) keep these safe-cuddle tips in mind:

Watch for Consent:

Look for "green light" body language like slow blinking, relaxed ears, and gentle head bobbing.

Keep it Brief:

Practice the "3-second rule." Give them a quick cuddle, then reward them with a treat or extra playtime.

If you follow the above, you can sometime talk cats who don't like cuddles to come around...

Yes! Jo Jo did go for a tummy tickle! She LOVES those!

We hope that you have as good a day as we did!

  2. Jo Jo you are a kitty after my own heart. Don't pick me up! Just get down on the floor and brush my hair and the more you do my tummy the better. Precious

  4. June here: touch me with your "paws" and I will return your touch with my claws-of-death. Try to hold me, catch me or otherwise infringe upon my rights as a cat to my own body, my own space and you will regret it for a very long time. Do you not remember this was clearly stated in My Contract Of Adoption, signed in blood. Said blood being yours ... remember? You can, of course, brush me, staying at the proper distance, when I demand and require it, but only on certain places upon said body, should that brush dare to touch other body spots, and you know well which spots I refer to, your very life hangs in the balance. Are we clear now about Hug Your Cat Day? Not in this house. Not today, not any day. Thank you very much.

  5. We don't have any cats here, but I'm always up for a good cuddle. The kitties across the street that my mom took care of both like to cuddle. Maybe she could go visit them today to get her fix.

  6. Charlee: "I love hugs and kisses from Dada, but do not pick me up."
Chaplin: "I love to be picked up and carried around, but do not kiss me."
Oona: "Oona tolerates being picked up, hugged, and kissed, but pay close attention to her ears because they will tell you when it is time to stop."

  7. Awww, I want to hug all of you, but especially Marvelous Marv. Would you let me?

I linked this post to Wordless Wednesday.

Have a fabulous day and rest of the week. Scritches all around, a smooch and a hug to handsome Marvelous Marv and a big hug to mom. ♥

  10. Consent is key, but keep petting quickly and they’ll get used to more and more.
