Pet Obesity Awareness Day

We are lucky, since Mom moved back to Midway 6 years ago, she (and Cinnamon) went on a diet and exercise regime. Mom lost 21% of her weight and Cinnamon lost 35% by walking (and eating right). Not only did Mom loose the weight, she has managed to keep it off (and even lose a little more) since she broke her leg. Mom's health and her conditioning are in better shape too.

All of us cats are in terrific shape as is Nutmeg. Mom says it is easier to keep Nuts from overeating! She does NOT get people food from the Peeps when they are snacking or eating. AND Mom loves that there are now easy to find Cat & Dog Calorie & Body Condition Calculators.

Mom's really happy that last year (while making the badges), she found the Pet Obesity Prevention site. She has found their information really helpful and she has passed along the information and the site to loads of Peeps.

If you want more information, you should visit the site

  1. Congrats on losing the extra pounds! It's not an easy task and it's not easy for our pets either as they love to share everything that we are eating.

  3. Even though I love to eat, my parents have always kept me at a perfect weight. They did have to adjust to make sure I didn't get too many snacks since Millie isn't here to share them with me now.

  4. Lulu: "Congratulations to your Mom on losing the weight and keeping it off, that is not an easy thing to do!"
Charlee: "Our Mama and Dada are all about keeping us from gaining weight. Dada even weighs us cats once a week and adjusts our food down slightly if we are getting a little heavier than they would like. IT'S AWFUL."
Java Bean: "Ayyy, but doesn't he also adjust your food up slightly if you should weigh a little more?"
Charlee: "Who cares about that? I'M HUNGRY NOW!"

  5. this is a super chart, good to see and have. when we asked the vet if Beau was overweight, he was 87 when we got him and was down to 81 a few weeks later, he said run your hands up and down the rib cage and if you can't feel the ribs they are overweight. Beau was fine at 81 but even better at 77. sadly he said the weight loss is muscle not fat. the best way to tell us is the back doesn't curve like in the photos.... cats can live for 20 or more years if not overweight... my son and his wife had one that made it to 25

  6. Get header! I, Precious, went to see Dr. Feelbad today, Jo Jo. He can not call me obese anymore. I'm down to 13.1. He wanted me to be 13, so what nasty thing does he say today........12 pounds would be ideal! I almost chomped him with my fangs. We are glad yer mom is able to walk still more now after all her ordeals and the weight went away furever.

  7. Congrats on losing weight. I have tried to do so for years. Last year I lost more than I bargained for, but it has stabilised now.

  11. Give cats or dogs exactly the amount and kind of kibble or canned food recommended by your vet, and nothing more except the occasional good quality treat, and you won't have to worry. Try telling that, though, to my Sweetie!

  12. Benji is the skinny dude, Dalton is like the#7 on that chart...but he has not gained any more wt in the past three years. His noms are strictly ender control, as are Benji's. The only people food they get is a crunchy veggie, n ow and then and maybe a chance to lick out the yogurt containers.
Congrats on your own wt loss journeys!
