In the continuing saga of our local feral...Loki (who used to be Lucifer) is STILL not trapped and neutered!
His whole life was thrown into turmoil last year when his Peep moved. Lucifer, who was semi feral, knew something was up and resisted all attempts to trap him (and there were many).
After his Peep left, Mom and Mary were feeding him. Just when they were get close to catching him (he would come when they came to his feeding station), the Man that owned the house he used to live in, had it torn down so he could build a new house on the lot. Mary and Mom had to move his feeding and sleeping station.
Then came disaster! Mom broke her leg! Mary took over the Lucifer Feeding and that set everything back to ZERO. Mary has 2 neighborhood cats. Merrel and Lindy. Both used to be feral, but they were TNRed, Fed and they now sleep in Mary's shop. They love their new life. They have a warm place to sleep, they get fed good cat food and they have a job! They keep all the vermin out of Mary's shop! Lucifer did not take kindly to the moving (yet again) of his food station. He was a little feisty with Lindy and Merrel. And Mary did not like his name so he was now being called Loki. He DID, however, like having a warm, dry place to sleep. Mary had the winter cat box that she put together for Merrel before he got tame and Loki used it last winter.
Mom and Mary are now back to where they were last summer, before Loki's home was torn down. He will let them touch his head, he will rub up against legs (but don't try to touch him). And he does not run and hide the minute he sees them. He will NOT eat inside any kind of confinement, so trapping him with food does not work. Luckily, with all the efforts that Mom and Mary have put into the catching of Loki has caught all the other strays and ferals and there have been no new kittens this summer! Loki has not had to defend his territory, though he did have a run in with a raccoon that wanted his supper and he did limp for a little while after that (BTW the raccoon has not been seen since - we believe that Loki won). The vet has said that she will neuter him and that if they catch him on a weekend all we have to do is call her and she will take him right away.
Kozmo, Jo Jo and Me (Marvelous) still sit in the backyard with Loki and enjoy each others company. THe new cats that belong to the new people have made furrends with Loki and there is not too much "spraying" going on.

Your mom and Mary are doing wonderful work. I do hope Loki can eventually be trapped.

ReplyDeleteLoki has worked out a life for himself of supported freedom... I kinda identify with him!!! Well done to the peeps for their determination that he should not suffer and here's hoping there's a successful catch and neuter. Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
Poor Loki sure has had a tough time since his people abandoned him. I hope he can be caught and neutered some day, but at least you prevented any litters by catching all the other cats in the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Hope that broken leg heals up nicely.
ReplyDeleteCannot tell from your post, so going to suggest a drop trap for nabbing Loki.
Good luck, and thanks for caring.
People generally have no idea at all what others who TNR Community Cats go through. And how they worry and all the work they do. I am glad each time someone like you, takes the time to tell readers what is entailed with and doing TNRing...
ReplyDeleteLoki has had a tough life but he has you and Kozmo and Jo Jo as his friends, Marv.
ReplyDeleteTNR isn't easy, it is frustrating and important.
ReplyDeleteI will be praying for Loki to be caught. XO
ReplyDeleteCharlee: "Poor Loki has had a run of trauma and bad luck, and he may be too clever for his own good, not unlike the Loki from those Marvel movies that our Dada likes ..."
ReplyDeleteOh, he is way too smart for regular trapping methods, what a rascal! Glad he was able to get back to letting things be peaceful for humans and other kitties, too.
ReplyDeleteI hope something will persuade him to go in a trap...or inside a home.
Boy, Loki has sure had it tough, but he is lucky to have such good friends like you! XO
ReplyDeleteOh, We do so hope Loki will allow himself to be propurrly rescued and have a real home.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you need a drop trap, they are not easy to come by or easy to use, but sometimes it's the only way. I hope you can do something soon.
