You know what’s really annoying? People and pets who take selfies all day. They always have these amazing profile pics and look utterly fantastic. It’s like they took thousands of images to get just the right one and it’s so frustrating!
I, Marvelous admit it, I AM jealous! I can't take such a perfect selfies! Mine always come out looking like they were taken by a pigeon landing on a discarded camera. (Don't tell my pigeon buddy--Feather Locklear--She is a wonderful furrend to help because you kind of need thumbs...
More about selfies:
In 2014, BBC officially declared a National Selfie Day, which amusingly heralded a sudden decline in selfies, AND interestingly, there was a similar drop after the Oxford English Dictionary added ‘selfie’ to its pages. Apparently making something official is a terrific way of making sure no one wants to do them anymore.

My Selfie

Here in the Great White North, it is National Indigenous People's Day too!
In Canad, today we recognize and celebrate the traditions, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis. It is the most significant day of celebration for National Indigenous History Month. The image has 3 illustrations: an eagle representing First Nations, a narwhal representing Inuit, and a violin representing Métis. These illustrations are placed around the sun and surrounded by multicoloured smoke that represents Indigenous traditions, spirituality, inclusion and diversity.
National Indigenous Peoples Day takes place on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. For generations, many First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities have celebrated their cultures, languages, and traditions at this time of year. The summer solstice holds deep spiritual and cultural significance for many Indigenous Peoples, marking a time of renewal, connection, and celebration.
Mom is hoping to go to a local PowWow. We will stay home and imagine the smoked salmon, bannock and the dancing!
That is a lovely selfie, Marv. I take a terrible selfie. I took one yesterday to send to a friend to show how my "new" hair is growing. It sounds like the pow wow will be good. I have heard of Inuits of course, but not Métis. I will Google them.

ReplyDeleteI hope mum gets to to the PowWow - it's always so enriching to learn of different lives. And your selfie is lovely Marv! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
Beau hates selfies, but yesterday I forced him, ha ha, by taking them anyway. Truth is, I force him any time. You look well, MARVeloous to us. I would love to visit the pow wow! my brain is on misfire, a lot, and forgot to do selfie today, but will do them tomorrow. I know this will make me sound really dumb, but I never even thought about Canada having indigenous people. I just went out and checked up on it and how did I miss all this is the question....
ReplyDeleteJust learned recently that there are three controlling interests in the welfare of Lake St. Clair, which we live next to. The United States, Canada, and the Indigenous Peoples who have the territorial rights.
ReplyDeleteAlthough not a Great Lake, Lake St. Clair is an important piece of the puzzle, and it needs looking after.
Managing wildlife, water quality, shorelines, yet allowing boating, shipping, fishing, etc.; it's a delicate balance.
That's a wonderful selfie, Marv! Happy National Indigenous People's Day too!

ReplyDeleteHappy Indigenous people's Day!
One of my girlfriends did a lot of work with the Metis when she was just out of college (she was a nurse...now retired). When I worked in London Ontario, we often had patients from the reserve nearby.
My Aunt was fascinated by the culture(s) of the indigenous peoples, esp the Inuit. She had a lot of original sculptures and paintings, and I have no idea what happened to them after she passed, sadly enough. I do believe some are with my cousins, but I am not sure.
I like your selfies and I am very glad the traditions of indigenous peoples are being recognized. It should be that way everywhere.
