Thankful Poetry Thursday

Poetry!

Hi Guys! This week we are doing Sammy (and Teddy)'s Poetry! When we first looked at this picture, it reminded our Mom of canoeing on the Little Red River when she was a teenager.

 Adrenaline rushing through imagination

Then they stopped on the brink
Looking down made their stomachs sink
Of the tallest water fall
And the worst feeling of all
How to remove themselves from the top
Without that immediate stop
That crashing to the bottom would bring
Thinking of how much it would sting
Then another went kayaking by
And they let out a terrific sigh
Perhaps their imaginations went wild
The Fall was really a stream that was mild
But what a story the tale they told
Something to remember when they were old

The above is an actual photo called Kayak waterfall, adrenaline rush at Victoria Falls, Zambia, Africa. The photographer wrote, “To capture this feat, multiple camera angles were needed. For the film crew (and myself) to avoid aviation authorities and fly below the 1,500-foot minimum flight limit, the paddlers had to set off across the crocodile- and hippo-infested waters above the falls before sunrise. The paddlers approached the edge of the mile-wide, 350-foot-high falls to scout the rapids below. This moment was captured from a helicopter circling 500 feet above the falls, battling with mist and wind blowing up from the narrow canyon. Challenges included extreme air turbulence and constantly having to wipe water from the spray off of the lens. I had initially planned to shoot wide at 15 mm, but a last-second in-air lens change in these conditions rewarded me with this shot.” Photo #13 by Desré Pickers

  4. What a relief that the first photo is not the real thing! Great photography and poem. Such big yawn, showing the sharp fangs!

  5. That is a great poem for the scary photo. Thanks too for telling the story behind it. Your mom's version of the photo is much less panic inducing!
The Kettle with the snow on looks beautiful, but I know you are waiting for it to look like last year. When I first saw the two photos I couldn't believe how fast it had melted in three days, then I saw it was two different years!

  7. Marv, Lynn used to canoe a lot to but it was always on Flat Water. I wouldn't let her get near a waterfall otherwise who would come home to feed me? Glad to see that you have soft water in your creek now instead of hard water. Precious

  8. You sure got us with that first photo! Mom went to Niagara Falls a lot as a kid because Gramma is from that area. People used to get injured or killed trying to go over the falls quite often, so your photo seemed real to us! May the fool be with you today!

  11. That's a great poem and we liked learning about the real story behind that picture. It's hard to believe that someone would willingly drop from there in a kayak (or anything for that matter). How nice that your river is melted but we bet the water is still cold.

  12. Great job on the poem and I enjoyed the facts behind the photo. Glad your snow finally melted. XO

    Love the poem. Perfect.

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. A big hug to mom, scritches to the furbabes and a smooch to Marv. ♥

  15. What a beautiful river to have fun in! I'm relieved that kayaking photo was an illusion - whew! Good news that Mom has wheels, even if they are temporary ones. Enjoy your Thursday all!

  18. Heights are not my thang, that's for sure!

  19. Oh wow, that view from the top would have Mom running for the shore as fast as her legs would take her. She cannot look down from heights without getting really woozy.

We love our snow, but the soft green grass of Spring is nice too:)

Woos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber

  28. Yipes! I can't imaging standing so close to a high waterfall like that, since I'm afraid of heights. I wasn't always, though. Growing up in Niagara Falls NY, I had no problem standing at the edge of the Falls, or walking across the Rainbow Bridge to Canada (yes, there is a real Rainbow Bridge!) or biking across the Grand Island Bridge either. I love flying in a jet, but I'm terrified of standing on a balcony of a tall building. Go figure!

Oh, and you're so lucky to have a wonderful little river right in your back yard!

  29. I went walking along our Great Miami River bike trail yesterday. :) It's not as picturesque as your river, let alone those rapids. Happy Easter!

  30. Charlee: "Our Dada took one look at that first picture and declared it a 'hard no', whatever that means."
Chaplin: "I think that means he is not as fond of heights as we cats are!"
