Thankful Cinnamon

Can I have more ice cream?

Cinnamon had surgery yesterday, Since February, she has had a rapidly growing mass on her belly. Mom took her to the vet when Kozmo went for a check up early last month and the vet look at it. It turns our she had what is called an infiltrative lipomas.

What is a lipoma?

A lipoma is a term to describe a very common benign tumor of fat seen in middle-aged to older animals. These tumors can vary in terms of thei
r rate of growth (some may remain the same size for years) but become problematic for your pet when they grow in locations that impact their ability to walk or cause discomfort. Lipomas can grow anywhere (even inside the abdomen), but the most common place is under the skin where fat is normally present. They may grow in between layers of muscle or may grow in a location that causes your pet discomfort whenever they walk. When these tumors grow in between muscle layers, they are typically called infiltrative lipomas.

If you are squeamish don't read the next paragraph...

Because it had grown so fast, they wanted to remove it as soon as possible, the earliest they could fit Cinnamon into their schedule was yesterday (Cinco de Mayo). Mom and her got up at 6:30am and headed for Grand Forks. Mom went back and got her at 3 PM. The vet told Mom that they removed 3 and a half pounds of fat (she now weighs only 45 pounds) and it will take a while to heal. Cinnamon was groggy, crying and not at all happy. She cried all the way home in the car and half the night. And EVERY time she moved this morning. Mom figured it was because one of the drains was caught between the layers of bandages. Finally Mom decided she had to cut off  the bandages to clean up her wound (she has about an 8" incision with 2 drains!) There was much drama! Cinnamon cried, she tried to hide under the kitchen table, and made it really difficult for Mom to cut the bandages off (off course they stuck to her fur too)!   Cinnamon cried and screamed and squirmed, but once the bandages were off, she realized it felt much better.

She was terrifically good when Mom wrapped her up  again with a much smaller bandage and wrap (though Mom will have to change it before bed). She actually went outside and walked around from the front door to the back door, had a pee and she ate! (we think it was because Mom promised her ice cream when the new bandage was put on).

We are thankful that she is feeling better and that she is no longer being pained by her bandage and that the infiltrative lipmas is gone. We are purraying that she heals quickly and without any problems and that her drains can be removed when she goes back to the vet on Monday for a check up. Cinnamon is thankful that the lump is gone (She was having trouble sleeping on that side) and that she is feeling better.

Because it is Artsy Caturday, we are pawticipating in Athena and Marie's Blog Hop! We look forward to seeing all the other cool art and doing the puzzles! Click on Althena's Badge to be taken to Artsy Caturday Central
