The International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAPM) has proclaimed September as Animal Pain Awareness Month, and this coincides with human medicine’s Pain Awareness Month. Animals suffer from pain just like people do. Pain comes in many forms: surgical pain, arthritis and cancer related pain, just to name a few.  Acute pain is obvious and distressing. Chronic pain can be subtle, and masked as “getting old” or “slowing down.” Old age is not a disease, but pain is. There are many options to treat the various causes of pain in animals including pain medications, physical rehabilitation, acupuncture, laser therapy, and therapeutic massage.
The proclamation of the month is in keeping with IVAPM’s commitment to encouraging pain management for all animal species through education and advocacy. During this annual campaign, IVAPM is also encouraging various veterinary organizations to raise public awareness about pain and pain management as it pertains to veterinary patients.

September - Gotta Love the summer days and and the cooler nights!

September is important for more than 3 month long events!
They are:

Animal Pain Awareness Month

Happy Healthy Cat Month

September Woofs

And September  FIRST is

GINGER CAT DAY!

Ginger Cats are SPECIAL! And unique. We looked around and found some interesting facts about Ginger Cats.

Not all Ginger Cats look the same! Their coloring ranges from a dark auburn red while others are almost a pale strawberry blonde! As a Matter of fact, Big Furry and Sunshine, who live across the street from us Big Furry is a dark red and his sister Sunshine is a pale strawberry blonde!

Big Furry
Sunshine
Most Ginger Cats are male (the red color gene is tied to the X Chromosome). Big Furry is a boy cat and sunshine is a female and they are litter mates!    Neither of them has a prominent tabby pattern yet Marmalade, who lives 2 streets over is a bright orange tabby.

Ginger Cats appear in many different breeds!

There is no science proving it but Ginger cats have BIG personalities and they are extra friendly. They are often said to be attention seeking and affectionate (Velcro cats). I, Marvelous prefer to think it is tabby that underlies their coats and Mr Kozmo says they are no where near as much fun as tuxedos!

What do you think?

September Month Long Events And Ginger Cat Day!

If you would like any of September's badges at a smaller size (300x300 instead of 600x600) they can be found on our September Badges Page.

Hi Guys! Welcome to September and the events that will happen all month long!  First up, September is

Animal Pain Awareness Month

September is Pain Awareness Month, not only for our Peeps but us pets too! Pain is often a symptom of underlying health issues, and early detection can lead to prompt treatment, which can improve the chances of a positive outcome. Understanding animal pain can also help pet owners make informed decisions about their pet’s medical care.

When pain, is not treated, it can lead to a decline in an animus animals’ quality of life. Us pets try  to hide our pain, so it can be hard for our pawrents. So, understanding animal pain means that our Peeps can take steps to make sure we are comfortable and happy. That’s why Animal Pain Awareness Month was created: to make owners aware of what causes pain in animals and how to tell if an animal is in pain.

Happy Healthy Cat Month

For us cats here at Casa De Marv, every month is Happy Healthy Cat Month!  Happy Cat Month was created by the CATalyst Council to promote the welfare and wellbeing of domestic cats. Cats need plenty of stimulation, health care, and attention to keep them feeling their best. Happy Cat Month aims to bust these misconceptions and stereotypes through education, sharing of information, and examples of proper cat health. We are lucky, our Mom treats us really well!

National Service Dog Month is a month-long celebration honoring the hard work and life-changing impact service dogs make on people with disabilities every day.
What Is a Service Dog?
