United Nations World Wildlife Day (WWD) is celebrated every year on 3 March to celebrate wild animals and plants. Every year, we recognize the unique roles and contributions of wildlife to people and the planet.
What is World Wildlife Day?
On 20 December 2013 at the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), March 3 was declared United Nations World Wildlife Day (WWD). This day holds significance as the day that the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was signed in 1973. The UNGA Resolution designated the CITES Secretariat as the facilitator for the global observance of this special day for wildlife on the UN calendar. UN World Wildlife Day has now become the global annual event dedicated to wildlife.
People everywhere rely on wildlife and biodiversity-based resources to meet our needs - from food, to fuel, medicines, housing, and clothing. For us to enjoy the benefits and the beauty that nature brings us and our planet, people have been working together to make sure ecosystems are able to thrive and plant and animal species are able to exist for future generations. So, let’s celebrate wildlife and the important conservation work being done around the world!

If Pets Had Thumbs Day
Not having opposable thumbs presents some limitations! On March 3, If Pets Had Thumbs Day, we are given the opportunity to imagine what life would be like if WE (your fuzzy little friends) had that extra digit.
Would we use it for good or evil?
Would we use it for good or evil?
Grab your Peep and read on. These are the things WE thought we could do with Thumbs!
1 Teach us how to give a high five or shake a paw
Cinnamon our previous hairy slobbery sister could do both (but do we have a photo -- NO).
2 Think of all the other things you could do!
Open cans, play fetch (by yourself), open doors, change channels on the remote...
What can you add to the list?

what a day... we wish we had thumbs... ohhh the possibilities...
ReplyDeleteI shudder to think how much mischief the Weims could do if they had thumbs. ha ha ha. with thumbs beau would love to open the fridge, and get in the cabinet with dog food. the food is in a Tupperware, and wit thumbs he could open it. our poor wildlife is being pushed out of existence by humans removing their environment. I fear the end results
ReplyDeleteI dread to think what mischief would happen if pets had opposable thumbs!

ReplyDeleteI really don't think you pets require thumbs - after all, don't you prefer being served on paw and tail??? Yay for wildlife too!!! Hugswagswhiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
A fabulous post. Love the graphic you created too. Beautiful. You also know how much I love Marv.
ReplyDeleteI linked this post to Awww Mondays.
Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches all around, a smooch to Marvelous Marv and a big hug to mom. ♥
We luv our wildlife. We got da skwierls out the wahzoo and the chipmunks are now wakin' up furom the nasty bitter cold. And if I had thumbs, I'd go on a wild rampage! BFF Jo Jo, I see you lookin' at dose cans and wishin' you could open dem up.
ReplyDeleteHmmm! Squirrels and Chipmunks...our favorites! Mr Kozmo brought Mom a Mouse 2 nights ago (he brings them in deceased after the talking to he had last summer). Mom thanked him and when he was not looking, she tossed it into the junipers for the crows to find in the morningAnd Yes...I want thumbs...teeth just don't work on the cans. Your Grrl Furrend, Jo Jo
DeleteWe get to enjoy lots of wildlife around our house and when it warms up there will be more frolicking around our yard. Having thumbs would be great! We could open lot of doors, like the one that our bags of food are hidden behind!
ReplyDeleteHappy Happy all kinds of wonderful days. OMCs I did a flashback poem yesterday for Dr. Seuss it was by Madi about 'thumbs'!
ReplyDeleteHugs to you all
Cecilia
Can you imaging if we had thumbs the things we could do, and we could turn it into a Dr Seuss poem too! I guess all we can do is dream of it.
ReplyDeleteEven it it's not cute and cuddly, the biodiverse world is so very important to support!
ReplyDeleteWe dont' realize how much we rely on biodiversity and wild flora and fauna. I hope we figure it out before it's too late.
ReplyDeleteAs for the pets and thumbs, yes, I think there'd be much more mischief afoot (apaw?) if pets had them.
Glad you lack thumbs ro you wouldn't need us. XO
ReplyDeleteChaplin: "Oh, if we had thumbs it would be SO on." *looks at the can opener*
