Global Cat Day is on October 16 annually. National Feral Cat Day, as a critical part of Global Cat Day, falls on the same date. Both were created by Alley Cat Allies and are observed by millions of people every year.
Global Cat Day is a day to embrace the global truth that Cats Are Community. This powerful statement is recognition that cats have lived alongside us for thousands of years, have a rightful place in our communities, and are beings with inherent value who deserve to be protected.
Cats are our family, our friends, and our neighbors, whether they are community cats who live outdoors among us or companion cats who live indoors with us. Our unique relationships with them span thousands of years and cross every border.
Every neighborhood, village, town, city, and country worldwide must have policies and programs that protect cats as community members. That is the thought leadership and change Global Cat Day is all about.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was a very young person, our family fed and befriended three different "strays" who had clearly been living rough. TJ with the crooked tail, Simon of the tiger clan, and Jinj the ginger giant. Two of them didn't last too long... we lived on a main road at the time. Jinj, though, eventually became a house cat and was much loved! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
We have never owned a feral cat but when mom and Molly lived in our apartment in another town, we saw lots of them.
ReplyDeleteI, Precious am glad I was saved from the orphanage, but I was not feral like Marv. I was just given away and Lynn found me! She's been feeding one feral female here fur months acause when it started, Polka Dot, was obviously nursing. She brings her gray kitten, about 4 months old now, only once in awhile. We have way too many feral cats in the country.
ReplyDeleteHmm, why didn't I know about Global Cat Day?
ReplyDeleteI've got International Cat Day on my calendar on August 8, so maybe I just didn't sync the two days as separate celebrations.
Anyhow, community cats need our support; just ask Henry who is napping in a warm house, on soft blankets.
We totally and completely love our sweet Ferals.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to bring awareness to the feral cats of the world.
ReplyDeleteThank you for spreading the word. We all need to help. XO
ReplyDeleteAll pets and domesticated species are part of our community, we need to provide them with what they need to thrive. One way to start is TNR with cats.
ReplyDeleteWe love the feral kitties here. Thank you for spreading awareness about how awesome they are!
ReplyDeleteChaplin: "We don't see too many feral cats here in the canyon, but we know they are around. In fact our mama kitty was feral and Charlee and I were born on the street, although the Humane Society picked us up when we were very small—"
ReplyDeleteOona: "BUT NOT AS SMOL AS OONA!"
Charlee: "Well we may have been as smol as you when we were picked up, but not when Mama and Dada adopted us."
