Happy New Year!

 Happy New Year!

We had the most fabulishous New Years Eve...After 2 days of constant snow (about 8 inches or 20 cm) we had SUN! As it does not often get really cold, here, with the sun it actually above freezing. The river froze right after Christmas because it stayed below freezing for a few days.  We can hear the ice cracking! If the sun stays out, the river will open up again in the next couple of days.

Mom and Alex has to shovel first thing in the morning or it is like shovelling Dairy Queen Ice Cream and is really heavy!

Because we got so much snow, Alex shovels paths for us cats!

Now for the glamor sun shots!

Jo Jo in the cat tree in the living room bay window. She was watching the birds eat berries off the Mountain Ash trees.

Here is Marv sitting on the back deck. He is watching the cat that lives across the river.

Cinnamon is laying in the snow...waiting for someone to throw her ball!

And Me, Kozmo, telling Mom my answers to the Friendly Fill-ins for New Years!

1. My focus word for 2021 is Patience, even though things are better, it will take a while for the world to get back to normal.
2. I didn’t get to talk on the Blog much this year, but I hope to in 2021.
3. The year 2020 taught me Marv is really fast! Especially when he's mad at me!
4. Learn self defence is one of my biggest goals for 2021. I am a gentle giant and Jo Jo, Marv and Cinnamon push me around.

Last Thankful of 2020

 Dear furrends,

We are so furry thankful to have such wonderful furrends all over the world.

We are thankful for Brian and his family! They do so much for the Cat Blogosphere and for cats who need help. One of my favorites is to hear about their outside furrends who think his backdoor is their restaurant! We are thankful that they sponsor the Thankful Thursday blog hop where we can give thanks and gratitude!

We are especially thankful that this is New Years Eve and that 2020 will now be behind us!

Cat and Dog Weekly Horoscope December 29, 2020 to January 4, 2021

Its the Weekly Horoscope written especially for Cats (and Dogs) by me for you!

Cinnamon, my hairy slobbery sister felt we should make them for all pets and not just cats! And being a multipet household, we agreed!

You may not know exactly when yous was born and what sign yous is, there is 2 ways, you can go to several horoscope sites and read the profiles or you can use your Gotcha Day.

Here are the 'scopes we have written for you for December 29, 2020 to January 4, 2021. This week, instead of your Purrsonal lucky day, we will give you a New Years Resolution!

Aries -- (Mar. 21- Apr. 20) A crazy start to an important week could be a little confusing. Today (Tuesday) could be a key turning point. Choices and big changes can happen if you pay attention to what is behind the curtain (could it be your furbling)? If you have fights with furblings nothing will be resolved. This carries through into the New Year. However, New Years Eve is fun. You have tasty treats and the fireworks don’t scare you. Your New Year’s resolution: keep your options open!
Taurus -- (Apr. 21- May 21)  Early this week it might feel like the upcoming New Year is losing its sparkle. Fix this. Think about fresh beginnings--For example you could wake your human up at the crack of dawn! If they do get up, do it again tomorrow and day after that! Look to beyond the 30th for more of an indication of how this is likely to develop. This could be a whole new habit! Make sure you let your human sleep on Friday though! Your New Year’s resolution: be bolder!

Gemini -- (May 22-June 21) Your human needs attention. Be extra careful about your behavior though. Don’t do anything that could make them upset. Try following your human around and jumping in their lap when they sit down. This could mean extra treats. On New Year’s Day, chat up everybody! Everything blocking you will vanish. On the weekend, you have extra energy and the kind of fun attitude that will liven up any room. Your New Year’s resolution: resolve to be more active!
Cancer -- (June 22-July 22) As this week starts, think before you act. On Wednesday and Thursday morning, think fast! Your quick wit and crazy ideas win you applause and admiration. New Year's Eve you will be the life of the party. New Year's Day, and through the weekend, you might feel overwhelmed by pesky details. But don’t let them get you down. It is the universe telling you it’s time to ditch your routine and take a walk on the wild side. Your New Year’s resolution: be more open to new things!
Leo -- (July 23-Aug 22) Ready for a fun week? You can make a good time out of any situation. Wednesday and Thursday are more serious. It’s a good time to show off and get deserved praise. On New Year’s Day thru Sunday, your human or furblings will look to you to bring life to the home. Your antics could even verge on the extreme. (Which makes sense for a natural leader like you, right?) This Sunday, your earnestness and warmth will win you respect and affection. Your New Year’s resolution: cuddle every day!
Virgo -- (Aug. 23 -Sept. 23) This week starts with a BANG! You know exactly what to do. (Your only real danger is accidentally running over your human or furbling.) On Wednesday and Thursday, you’ll shift into a more philosophical mood. You bat around big ideas and try to tune into the big picture. New Year’s Day thru Sunday, expect a return to life’s finer aspects! Treats, brushes, and scratches. You’ve got the skills to bend your human to your will! Your New Year’s resolution: embrace the new!
Libra -- (Sept. 24 -Oct. 23) This week is about compromise. Be careful and cautious in your one-on-one relationships. Whatever you put out (positive or negative) is multiplied and returned by your furblings and humans. Thursday your natural diplomacy will shine. Try to think things through—and don’t be surprised if everyone is impressed. New Year’s Eve thru Sunday you are filled with the party spirit! Everything excites you and you excite everyone! Your New Year’s resolution: don’t take situations for granted!
Scorpio -- (Oct. 24 - Nov. 22) After a lively start, the general vibe becomes more controllable as the week progresses. Try to pitch in and help out. Flexibility and compromise are key, but don’t wimp out and give up too much. If your humans say STOP, perhaps you should. From Thursday afternoon through Saturday, you’ll need to mind your p’s and q’s. There are special treats on New Year’s Day and more could be yours if you do.  This Sunday, use your intuition to get what you want. Your New Year’s resolution: let go of minor gripes!
Sagittarius -- (Nov. 23 -Dec. 21)  You start the  week with an energetic flourish! You’re full of vitality and you can accomplish anything. On Thursday, your communication skills are without equal—you can get your point across clearly and persuasively. You are the life of the New Year’s Eve party. Your sensitive, affectionate nature will capture the heart of anyone you are attracted to. On Sunday, follow your mood and don’t hold back. Your New Year’s resolution: introduce more balance in your life!
Capricorn -- (Dec 22.- Jan. 20)You start the week feeling worriedyou need to nap more. Wednesday thru Thursday everything gets easier. Be free with your feelings and others will let you know how much you’re appreciated. On New Year’s Eve, avoid flighty humans and furblings. Be careful though, your childlike qualities can get you into big trouble, think before you play with those baubles. On Sunday and Monday, deal with the issue at hand. Your New Year’s resolution: nap on every surface possible... NO ONE CAN STOP YOU!
Aquarius -- (Jan. 21 -Feb. 19) Anything can happen this  week! As it begins, You are electric. Step outside the box—don’t be surprised if your experiments lead to big discoveries. After Wednesday, you are not at a loss for a crazy plan, and you keep yourself (and your humans and furblings) entertained through New Year’s Day. This Sunday thru Monday, you’ll feel better once you’ve tended to some pesky details. Your New Year’s resolution: let things develop at their own pace!
Pisces -- (Feb. 20-Mar. 20)  At the beginning of the week, be cautious. Things may not be as they seem, and you might need to solve a puzzle to get to the bottom of things. On New Year’s Eve and New Years Day, you and your human are speaking the language of love. Nobody can resist your fun, flirtatious attitude. On Saturday and Sunday, you might start to feel overwhelmed. A possible disappointment may turn into a blessing in disguise! Your New Year’s resolution: don’t rush important decisions!

Now that we have seen what's in your stars this week, we will tell you what's happening in the SKY!

The next full Moon will occurs tonight (Tuesday, December 29, 2020), at 10:28 PM ET, and is known as the Full Cold Moon.

And a Meteor Shower!

The Quadrantid meteor shower, peaks the morning of January 3, but there is a bright Moon in the sky between now and the shower’s peak.  The Quadrantids have an expected maximum rate of 120 meteors per hour, and if you are patient you can still have a chance to see a shower of meteors as the peak approaches. The Quadrantids often produce bright fireballs (meteors that briefly flare to magnitude –3 or brighter).

The shower’s radiant lies in the extinct constellation — Quadrans Muralis. Today, that sits in the constellation Boötes, home to the familiar bright star Arcturus. The region rises after midnight and stands highest in the eastern sky before dawn, so early mornings of January 2, 3 and 4 will be the best time to see some meteors!

Happy 10th Gotcha Day Kozmo

It was cold outside the day that Hissy Old Licorice went over the bridge. He was 17 years old. He had some kidney issues and was on Sub-Q fluids for over a year. The day before he got extremely pale and would not eat. We called the vet, but could not get him in until the next day. I made an appointment for 11am. I woke up at 5:30 with Nellie howling. She was licking Licorice on the foot of the bed and he was not moving. He had passed away, peacefully, in his sleep. We put Licorice in his travelling basket, dug a hole in the frozen garden and buried him.
There was a hole in our lives. Licorice was a happy outgoing cat. He played with the dogs, he cuddled with Nellie and snuggled with me. He even played with the neighbor dogs! Nellie was despondent and would not eat.
A month later, we drove up to Kelowna to finish off shopping for Christmas. We were in PetSmart to pick up dog and cat food (and toys). When I was getting the cat food, I noticed there were about 15 cats in the for adoption center. One was a precious little tuxi and I was immediately captivated. I dragged Dave over and we looked at him (and a couple of other kittens).
We went and did the rest of our shopping. While we were picking up groceries, that kitten kept coming up in our conversations and on our way out of town, we stopped back at PetSmart and asked about adopting him. We were told we could fill out all the paperwork but could NOT take him home until the next day. They had a 24 hour waiting period.
The next day was December 23, we got up at 5:30 am and headed up the road to Kelowna. When we got to PetSmart, the kitten was not there! After calling, they found out one of the volunteers had taken him back to the shelter. We had to drive there to pick him up.
We got his story. Kozmo and 4 litter mates were found in a plastic bag tied to a pet store door. They were about 1 month old, eyes still closed, they had scrapes and abrasions and one kitten had already died.  They had fleas, worms and were not expected to survive. Kozmo and 3 of his litter mates survived and thrived. There were 2 black and white and 2 gray and white.
3 of them had been adopted about a month previous, but Kozmo had not responded very well at the pet store, hiding from people when they wanted to see him. As a mater of fact, when he bounced across the floor to chew on my shoelaces the lady who ran the shelter was astonished! I was positive Kozmo had been waiting for us to come and get him.
2 hours later, we had a 3 month old cat named Bruce and were on our way home. We did not want to call him Bruce and by the time we got home, his name was Kozmo.
Kozmo fit in well. He was the same size as Nellie (who would barely tolerate him) and the dogs, Bob and Sam thought he was terrific! I did too. He quickly became an integral part of our lives and Nellie's Blog.
Today we are celebrating Kozmo's 10th Gotcha Day! He will have his favorite, whipped cream and bacon!

Below are some photos of Kozmo and his exploits!
